The origin of our Castanospermum Australe is in Australia and the Vanuatu Islands, an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. In these countries Castano is also called Black Bean. These black beans grow on trees that can grow up to 15 meters in height. When the pods are ripe, the pods fall off the trees, which happens once a year. The seeds from the pods are collected by the local population and sent to the Netherlands. In Holland, we store Castano seeds in the cold room, so we can grow the beautiful Castano here all year round. Castano is available in several sizes.

Peculiar and contemporary, Castanospermum australe is admired for the way it sprouts from the chestnut on the surface of the soil. An umbrella of long, sleek, glossy leaves cover the slender, mottled stems, giving this tropical mini-tree an exotic aesthetic.

Reaching outdoor heights of 40 meters, this plant can be controlled indoors to the desired size and shape, giving you the opportunity to create your own indoor potted forest.
