Origin

The Meyer Lemon, is a citrus fruit native to the east and is thought to be a cross between a true lemon, a mandarin orange or a common orange. It was introduced to western growers by agricultural explorer Frank Nicholas Meyer who sampled the plant on a trip to China.

Flowering/Fruits

This exquisite Citrina is one of the most popular miniature houseplants, producing a surprising little lemon-flavored fruit. It has proven to be an ideal citrus plant for the British climate due to its high resistance to lower temperatures. It lives happily indoors or on a sheltered patio in the warmer months. She shows her thanks with a year-round display of fragrant white blossom... and post-harvest culture of the tangy fruit. The Meyer berry became popular as a food item in the United States after it was rediscovered by chefs such as Alice Waters in the late 1990s. This popularity only increased when Martha Stewart included them in her recipes. Lemon-limey jam can be enjoyed directly from the plant or used as a cooking ingredient or dessert. Truly versatile, it really makes a splendid garnish for a summer cocktail party on your patio...
