Erythrina is a tree widely used in urban landscaping. Its leaves are compound, trifoliolate with glabrous leaflets, slightly grayish green in color. The flowers are red on the surface and pink on the underside. It is considered a deciduous flowering plant, that is, it loses its leaves during flowering. The fruits are legume (pod) type.
It is not a very tall tree reaching 6 to 10 meters in height. With a thickness of about 50 cm, its trunk is tortuous and beautiful, as well as being useful: its wood has many uses. Flowering occurs from September to December. It is the symbol tree of Argentina.
They must be cultivated in full sun, in fertile soil, appreciating humid places, such as near streams and lakes, which gave rise to the popular name corticeira-do-banhado. Tolerant of moderate cold.
