Juniperus procumbens is a species of shrub in the cypress family Cupressaceae, native to Japan. This low-growing evergreen conifer is closely related to the Chinese juniper, Juniperus chinensis, and is sometimes treated as a variety of it, such as J. chinensis var. procumbens.
Juniperus procumbens "Nana" is a creeping juniper variety very sought after for creating bonsai, to be placed in ornamental gardens and widely used to cover slopes, due to its creeping size, which makes it an ideal shrub as ground cover.
