Pomegranate known botanically as Punica granatum is from the Punicaceae family.
Common names are Anar, Pomegranate, Dalimba, Dalim and Anardana.
It is a small to medium-sized deciduous subtropical tree.
It is considered a highly drought tolerant fruiting plant and is in high demand in the summer months.
The fruit is about 5 to 12 cm in diameter, red, round and looks like a red apple. The pomegranate skin is thick and contains hundreds of edible seeds.
The peel of the pomegranate fruit finds medical application in chronic dysentery and diarrhea, the flower buds are used in bronchitis.
It is a good source of vitamin C, potassium and fiber.
Low in calories. Dried pomegranate seed with pulp is used as a seasoning in dishes. The fruit juice has refreshing and cooling properties.
Maximum height - It can reach between 2 and 3 m in height.
Flowering - blooms three times a year in many parts of India, in January-February, June-July and September-October. Sometimes it may vary depending on the climate of a specific area.
Entry into Fruiting - Normally, it will occur between the first and second year after planting.
